SAREX is a multi organization training exercise held twice a year somewhere on Vancouver Island. Over 60 members of Amateur Radio, the RCMP and Search and Rescue from communities up and down the Island gathered at Skutz Falls on the Cowichan River for SAREX '14.

As the Skutz Falls area is a popular spot for many outdoor activities the park was still open on this weekend.
One astute fisherman happened to spot what appeared to be a dead body on the opposite side of the river.
Upon a hasty return to the parking lot he spotted a Search and Rescue member and told him his tail,
he was relieved to find it was only a dummy and an exersize.
The Daughter was found on the shore of the Cowichan River, cold and injured, she would need to be lifted up the side of the cliff to bring her to safety.
The rescuers put the girl securely into the basket, then guided up the side of the cliff to safety.
