hosted by Guy Fieri. The show follows Guy as he visits those great hole in the wall
places that serve the best food. There are many websites and blogs that follow the show,
on one fan-site there are maps and addresses of featured DDDs, there are hundreds
across the USA. That made me think . . .
. . .wouldn't it be great to visit some of these places and try their meals.
We mapped out a trip down the west coast states, Washington, Oregon, and California
with stops each evening in a place close to a Diners, Drive-ins' or Dives featured restaurant.
Our next holiday was the Easter break from school and Tyler had a wrestling tournament on the mainland
so while we were on the off the island. . . . . . . . well, lets do a road trip.
We had a seven days to visit seven cities and have seven dinners.
After leaving Vancouver, BC our first stop was Everett, Washington.
Now Don't ask me how but we missed Bobby's Hawaiian Style Restaurant on Hewitt Ave.,
but instead we found Gorditos on Hewitt Ave., may be it was the bright colors or the great smells
of one of our favorite foods, Mexican.
After our great dinner at Gorditos we were very excited about the rest of the trip
Pulled Pork, Indian Currys, Chinese, Itialian, BBQ and more Mexican food is in store for us
over the next 7 days.
On the way down we stuck to the I-5, after Everett, Wash and the Boeing Aircraft Factory, we visited Vancouver/Portland, then off to Medford, Oregon we drove down the I-5 as far as Redding California, then toward the coast on the highway #299 across the Klamath Mountains to Eureka, California. The #299 is a great drive, it would be excellent on a motor bike or a camping trip. |
The Best Western Hotel we stayed at offered a Limousine service to its guests.
Comfort and style and truly a California thing, Dinner tonight was at
Rita's Mexican Restraunt, did I mention mmmmmm Mexican.
Day five was time to head towards home, we drove on highway #101 back up the coast to
Newport, Oregon (pizza) then Astoria, Oregon (Chinese Food ) then through
to Seattle Washington.
For the "Last Supper" we went to an . . . unusual cafe called Bizzarro, I hear it is run by circus folk,
well it is decorated by circus folk . . . the atmosphere and food was more upscale than the other
Diners, Drive-ins or Dives.
As usual the food was excellent and the atmosphere well . . . eclectic would fit.
GPS, it made finding some of these out of the way eateries a breeze.
Good food and really great DDDs. Next time maybe the East coast, mmmm Gumbo and Shrimp. . . .
